The Mornington Peninsula

There’s nothing like a good blast of frigid sea air to blow away the cobwebs. And when it comes to cobweb removal, the location of choice for many Melburnians is the Mornington Peninsula. The Mornington Peninsula is often described as “Melbourne’s playground” and is around an hours drive from Melbourne (depending on which bit of the Peninsula you’re going to and where in Melbourne you’re coming from). The Peninsula is a promontory which separates Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay, and has over 190 kilometres of coastline.

With the opportunity for a four-day weekend (Tuesday is a public holiday for Cup Day), the Fairlie Entourage headed to a small town called Somers, where we rented a beach shack for a couple of nights. Somers is on the Western Port Bay side of the Peninsula.

On the way home today, we drove over Arthur’s Seat and stopped to take in the view along the Peninsula towards the millionaires’ playgrounds of Portsea and Sorrento.
Despite Sunday being a complete washout, a good weekend was had by all, and after our walk along the beach this morning, we’ve definitely returned home cobweb-free!
