Well that’s settled then

Remember my angst over the inclusion of the apostrophe in the Sydney Writers’ Festival?

Well it seems the organisers of the Melbourne Writers Festival agree with my shabby/inspired (delete as applicable) logic that as ‘Writers’ describes an association with the following word (‘Festival’) rather than any direct ownership, no apostrophe is necessary.

Go to their website. Take a squiz at the logo.

Hallelujah. I can attend the Festival comfortable in the knowledge there shall be no rogue apostrophes to offend my sense of aesthetics.

Is this another item to chalk up on the scoreboard of the long-standing Melbourne-Sydney city rivalry?
