Wanna trip round Vietnam? (Again)

I know. I know.

We’ve been back over a week and it’s about time I loaded up some updates from our trip to Vietnam.

So, New Year’s Eve saw us heading off to Vietnam.

Again.

Yes, you’re right. We DID just visit there. In September, in fact. It’s a bit of a long, convoluted, and not very interesting story to explain the reasoning behind this…so let’s just move on, shall we?

Anyway. This time we took a much more direct route: Melbourne to Singapore, Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City.  The first leg was on one of Singapore Airline’s A-380s.  We had seats up the top, which were really spacious. The in-flight entertainment and service were excellent. The only trouble was, there was a cyclone brewing somewhere north of Australia, and for much of the trip we bounced and swayed.  And it seems that when an A-380 bounces and sways, you feel it just that bit more up in the top.  Result: three of us green with airsickness.  No-one actually throwing up (that would be saved for the return flight…) but feeling sick enough that we were extremely glad to see the inside of Changi Airport.

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh at about 7:00pm local time, and by 8:30pm we were in the hotel restaurant, picking at our “compulsory New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner” (they have such a way with words in Asian hospitality).  By 9:30pm we had crashed in our hotel rooms (it was 1:30am Melbourne time), only to have the front desk ring me at 11:30pm to invite us to the NYE cocktail party in the foyer.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ah, no.

So, that was the start of our two week trip. Over the next few days I’ll toss up a few pics from various places and a couple of tales.  If you were bored with Vietnam last time, tip-toe away quietly and perhaps come back in 10 days or so, when I may have something new to say…but I’m not promising.

Cảm ơn  (thank you).
