Sunny Sunday in Melbourne

Another beautiful spring day in Melbourne yesterday (although it got a little chilly and spat a few drops of rain later in the afternoon).

We ventured into the city and went to Birrarung Marr – the parkland on the northern bank of the Yarra between the river and the Federation Square complex. When Birrarung Marr was opened on Australia Day in 2002, it was the first new public parkland in the City of Melbourne in 100 years, and was created on an area that had previously been used as railyards.

The girls enjoyed playing in the Artplay Playground and we watched the large ferris wheel go around and around, with seemingly very few people on-board. Perhaps it gets busier later in the day?

Near the edge of the river, there is a textured pathway which apparently portrays the significance of the eel as a traditional food source for Aboriginal groups who camped by the river.

The detail of it is beautiful.
