Caffeine hit in Melbourne

In my travels around Australia, I’ve yet to find a city that can serve up my daily caffeine hit in as consistently good a manner as Melbourne. I’m not saying you can’t get good coffee outside Melbourne, I’m sure you can get great coffee all over Australia, it’s just that I tend to encounter bad ones more often elsewhere.
The espresso in Melbourne is strong, the milk is frothed to just the right consistency (even when it is soy), and a latte is usually served in short Duralex glasses, or groovy ceramic cups. None of those tall conical glasses with dicky little handles (as you see so often in Queensland and WA) that seem better suited to an icecream sundae. (Not at the cafes I go to, anyway.)
The first espresso machines were imported to Melbourne in the early 1950s, and since that time, Melbourne has developed a highly sophisticated espresso cafe culture. It’s extremely rare for an establishment to serve percolated coffee – it’s reserved for roadhouses, in-flight service, function centres and all-you-can-eat buffets.

Where do you get your daily hit?
