A delicate shade of raw umber – the Yarra River

The Yarra River, which flows through the centre of Melbourne skirting the CBD, is much maligned for its muddy colour.
I’ve always thought that is a little unfair. Sure, it’s not the clearest of rivers…but generally it reflects a blue or at least a greyish-blue hue.
But following the freak storm of about ten days ago which saw chaos and havoc wreaked across the city, the river is certainly living up to its reputation:
There’s an interesting explanation of why the river generally appears so muddy here. I suspect at the moment, most of Melbourne’s suburbs’ topsoil is being “kept suspended by the turbulence in some parts of the middle and lower sections of the river”.
